My Version - The Perfect UnSweet Tea
I love sweet tea BUT my husband does not - he's crazy. He likes his unsweet so when I make tea, I make it unsweet and add sweet n' low or sugar to my glass. But this pin really intrigued me because of the so called "Secret Ingredient" - Baking Soda.
So I was making tea tonight and decided to see what all the hype was about. I halfed the recipe that was listed on Craving Comfort and made it without the sugar.

So I was making tea tonight and decided to see what all the hype was about. I halfed the recipe that was listed on Craving Comfort and made it without the sugar.
Boil the water!
Add 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda and 3 tea bags to your pitcher.
Pour in boiling water and let steep covered for 15 minutes.
Take out the tea bags and fill to the top with water.
Pour a glass and add sweetener and lemon - that's how I like mine :)
So was it the PERFECT tea? It was good tea, a little stronger than tea that you make according to the directions on the box but it isn't anything that I would rave about. Maybe with the sugar it's a lot better. And I still have no idea how the baking soda makes a difference - my theories - makes the tea less bitter? Helps sugar dissolve? Makes the tea clearer? Oh well...if anyone else knows what it does, let me know!

This recipe looks delecious! We argue over which is better, unweet or sweet at my house too. I'll have to try this one soon!
ReplyDeleteI have this pinned to try out, too! We're in the same boat over here; husband likes unsweetened and I wouldn't dream of drinking my tea without some sugar!
ReplyDeleteI pinned this too. I was wondering the same thing! How can such a tiny amount of baking soda make the perfect sweet tea?
ReplyDeleteInteresting!! I've never heard of this. I need to try it now!!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Pinterest and wondered, Baking Soda? why?
